As the 2026-2027 school year begins, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy adopts a new class color system for its Tologs. This new system works by assigning voted class colors to the specific class for the whole four high school years instead of having a new color each year.
This decision was made at the Student Leadership Conference at the beginning of June in 2026. The Associated Student Body decided that, from now on, class colors will stay with each class. Student leaders from each class’s board voted on a new color.
Emma Dolan, a current ASB member from the Class of 2027 recalled that, “One difficulty that [ASB] encountered was making sure that everyone agreed on the assigned class color and understood the reason.”
Emma stated, “[The new colors] can help students build traditions and create memories around their class, and they may be able to appreciate having a constant color that represents their class throughout their high school experience.”
Having a single color that represents the whole class helps in building collective identity and school spirit.
From an ecological perspective, the new policy has some advantages. It reduces the clothing and costumes students purchase for spirit rallies and class color days. Thus, instead of changing costumes and accessories to a different color each year, students can now reuse their clothing and props.
This year’s sophomores have chosen orange as their new and lasting class color. Most complaints and discontent among the sophomores are not due to the color orange itself, but the controversial neon tone of it.
Rachel Yu ‘29, a current sophomore from the Residential Hall, expresses open-minded thoughts, saying, “[The new color policy] was pretty surprising, because last year we were told that we are going to be purple. When I heard that we were going to be orange, I was surprised and thought to myself that now I need to buy more orange clothes.”
The new class color system brings both energy and confusion to FSHA’s thriving community. But like Rachel said, “It is just a class color.” These colors do not obscure or replace our Tologs’ true self.
