This school year, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy welcomes 18 additional members to its faculty and staff.

The Hill is thrilled to welcome Angelina Arevalos ‘21, Residence Life Supervisor; Edward Casillas, Maintenance Technician; Christina Climaco, Executive Assistant to the Principal; Sandra Enriquez, Front Desk and Attendance Manager; Andrew Evangelisti, Campus Safety Officer and Operations Manager; Gabryelle Harlan, Residence Life Supporter; Euchul Kim, Chief Financial Officer; Dean Moffat, Maintenance Technician; Sean Paxton, Choral & Music Ensemble Teacher/Director; Peter Quach, Help Desk Support Technician; and Katherine Seto, Director of Campus Ministry.

They unfortunately could not be reached for an interview, but below, you can get to know our wonderful new staff and faculty and their thoughts on joining the Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy family.

Callie Cavalli, Campus Safety Officer

From coaching basketball and softball to working as a corrections officer and in law enforcement, Callie Cavalli has taken an unconventional path to FSHA. A graduate of Central Washington University with a double major in political science and law and justice, she has worked in a variety of fields and describes herself as a, “jack of all trades.” Now, she is focused on getting to know the Hill and its traditions, saying that the FSHA community has been “very warm, welcoming and open.” Students may be most surprised to learn that Ms. Cavalli once played professional women’s football.

Andrew Fleshman, English

After initially pursuing law, Dr. Fleshman realized that he wanted to spend his time reading, writing and studying the subjects he was passionate about, eventually returning to graduate school and turning his interest into a career. Having lived in cities including San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago and New York, as well as spending time in Europe, he brings plenty of experiences and perspectives to the Hill. He is especially excited to introduce students to new ideas and engage in conversations in class, saying, “I get excited about showing stuff to students that I think they have never seen or heard before, and I think they’ll enjoy or engage in some way.” Outside of teaching, Dr. Fleshman was a drummer in high school.

April Garcez, Director of Culture and Belonging

“I’m looking forward to seeing all the school spirit,” Ms. Garcez said, already excited about experiencing FSHA traditions like the Alma Mater, FSHlympics and pep-rallies. Originally from Los Angeles, Garcez has taught at several schools, including Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart in Washington D.C., where she taught Olympic swimmer Katie Ledecky. After returning to Pasadena, she was drawn to FSHA after seeing Ms. Bostic’s vision for the school. Outside of school, Garcez considers herself an ice cream connoisseur and has a particular love for candles and their many scents.

Tiffany Liou, Science

Ms. Liou is bringing her background in astrophysics and astronomy into the FSHA physics classroom after conducting research in graduate school and working as a teaching assistant for undergraduate physics labs. She continues to work part time as an astronomer, while still teaching full time. She is very excited to explore new topics with her students, “I’m very interested to teach circuits because I’ve never done that before, and circuits are fun,” Liou said. Her interests extend beyond the classroom as well. Her favorite type of mushroom is the maitake, which she says reminds her of Harry Styles’ hair.

Qianna Medellin, English

After 12 years at Immaculate Heart High School as an Assistant Director of Student Life and English Teacher, Ms. Medellin is bringing her experience in both academics and student life to FSHA. A former dancer and dance/cheer coach, she was introduced to the Hill through former colleagues and friends. She quickly found a community and was excited to join. She hopes to continue contributing to FSHA’s mission of inspiring and empowering young women and encouraging students to find support in those around them. Her advice for the school year is simple: “Lean on others and develop a strong network of support.”

David Selski, Math

“I was looking for something [very] family oriented,” Mr. Selski stated, explaining what drew him to FSHA after 27 years in education. With experience from teaching all different levels of math from elementary through college, Selski joins the Hill after previously teaching at an all-boys school. He was drawn to FSHA’s emphasis on forming faith-filled leaders and is looking forward to building relationships with students and colleagues. This year, he hopes to create a classroom where Tologs can feel comfortable with speaking up, asking questions and making mistakes without feeling the fear of judgement. 

Sara Tabin, English

Ms. Tabin comes to FSHA after teaching 9th and 11th grade English at LAUSD, teaching at a public school in Massachusetts and working as a journalist. Her first impression of FSHA came during her campus visit, where she enjoyed meeting her future coworkers and teaching a mock lesson to students she found “really excited to learn and really intellectually curious.” Now, she is really looking forward to getting involved in the community, from chaperoning junior retreat to seeing the school play. With so much ahead of her, Tabin summed up her excitement simply as “being excited about everything.”

With these additions to the community, FSHA continues to grow and change. The new staff and faculty all embody the kindness, commitment and passion that make FSHA such a special place. As they start their journey here on the Hill, they’re excited to inspire their students, build stronger relationships with their colleagues, and strengthen the community.
