The 2024-2025 school year brings several new updates to Tologcafe, ranging from dumplings for lunch and yogurt parfaits to higher everyday prices.
“We’ve added more packaged snack options like Cracker Jacks, gummies, Rice Krispies, and Fruit Roll Ups,” Mr. Chris Chou, the main chef of Tologcafe, said.
Thanks to these new items, Tologs will not have to worry about their favorite snack options running out.
“We are constantly trying to look for different items to sell to create variety,” Chef Chou said.
Other additions include new drinks at break and new packaged lunch items, many of which are available every day.
“I tried the new ham and cheese sandwich, which I really liked,” Chloe Lee ‘26 said.
These Tologcafe improvements, however, unfortunately come with a price: namely, higher prices. Most items on the menu are more expensive than they were last year.
“I believe the new price change is related to inflation,” Ms. Saida Seien, Tologcafe cashier, said.
Chef Chris confirmed Saida’s view.
“The prices went up a little based on the agreement between the school and our company, Culinart,” Chris said. “In general, prices have gone up in restaurants, and our food costs have gone up 30%, so unfortunately, that is why our company has gone up 10% to accommodate that.”
Some students find the new pricing prohibitively expensive and are packing lunch at home.
“I think that the lunch prices are too expensive this year,” Leah Green ‘25 said.
Though more expensive, the Tologcafe experience is better organized than in years past.
“We are trying to alleviate the long line issue by making sure we have a third cashier,” Chef Chris said.
This cashier helps control traffic at lunch lines, and Tologs have noticed the improvement this update brings.
“I think the lunch lines have gotten better because less people are pushing and shoving,” Leah Green ‘25 said
Whether new changes in TologCafe have upset or pleased Tologs, the Tologcafe is still a staple on the Hill. Long lines or Tikka Masala mobs are just a few examples of how the Tologcafe is so important to FSHA’s staff and students, providing exceptional food throughout the year. The hard work of the kitchen’s cooks and staff, now being put to use for new items, is never under-appreciated.
