Over the summer, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy upgraded the hallways, front office and classrooms in the one outdated wing of the main high school building to match with the rest of the school. A construction crew, led by Mr. Eric Pivovaroff, Director of Facilities and Security, came and gave our school a makeover.
FSHA also gained a faculty collaboration room where teachers can go during their free periods to get everything together for the day. “It’s a great room to just do class preparation and we can talk with each other,” math teacher Ms. Joo Eun Lee said.
The new classrooms feature four whiteboard walls where students can get up and show their work, “I am so grateful for the new whiteboards. They’re especially helpful during math,” Emma Giovannone, ‘27 said.
The favorite renovation for many people is the math classrooms downstairs, “I love the windows. It’s bright and airy and there’s an emergency door,” said Ms. Lee. “So everything is great.”
Mr. Pivovaroff and his construction crew had only June, July and part of August to complete these renovations before school came back in session. Given this limited amount of time, they needed to learn how to rely on each other.
“It was very stressful, but it was a good opportunity because it really showed us to rely on a team,” Eric Pivovaroff said.
So far, there have only been positive comments on the revamping of FSHA. Teachers and students believe that the renovations have had a beneficial impact on our school.
“In the future, I don’t have any recommendations. I think everything is perfect so far, no complaints,” Ms. Lee said.
Some students, however, do have suggestions for future improvements.
“I really like the renovations although I think the library definitely could have been improved,” Emma Dolan ‘27 said. “A new] escalator from the SAC would be nice.”
Future renovations aside, most everyone agrees that all the work done over the summer has made our school a better place.
